Program description

The Medical Radiation Physics Programme offers specialized training for aspiring Medical Radiation Physics graduates.

As a part of the Radiation Oncology team, the Medical Physicists are involved in clinical treatment planning, managing radiotherapy quality assurance programmes and maintaining equipments. Medical physicists use analytical and applied scientific techniques to assist healthcare workers for the safe treatment of patients and advice about radiation protection to the healthcare professionals. Medical Physicists are responsible for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy to cancer patients.

Focus

The M.Sc. program in Medical Radiation Physics provides candidates with the knowledge required to enter into the field of medical physics. The program relies on a strong fundamental science background and clinical practice through hands-on instruction with equipment used routinely in the hospital setting, including CT facilities, medical linear accelerators and brachytherapy which prepares a student for research or clinical training in this rapidly changing field and also gets trained in computer-based modelling, research methodology and the ethical dimensions associated with medical research

Graduates of Medical Radiation Physics program will gain an in-depth understanding of technical and theoretical knowledge, complemented with embedded practical work at hospitals to prepare them for a career as a Medical Physicist or Radiological Safety Officers in:

·            Radiotherapy, nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology departments in Private or government hospitals.

·            Radiation protection in industrial and scientific facilities

·            Research, development and commercialisation of radiation medical instrumentation
