Program description
The M.Sc Renal Replacement Therapy and Dialysis Technology is a post graduate program offered by MCHP, Manipal. In India this program is offered in a very few institutions. This program provides the specialized training in dialysis and other extra corporeal procedures at 24hours running hemodialysis unit of Kasturba Hospital Manipal. Students are also trained in renal transplantation counselling field. It provides the training for future research activities related to renal science and renal replacement therapies.
Aim
The primary goal of the master in dialysis technology program is to prepare accomplished professionals in dialysis therapy technology with a specific emphasis on clinical skills and technical knowledge along with professional research
Trainees acquire the research based knowledge and procedural skills necessary to deliver a high standard of care to the patients with chronic kidney disease requiring renal replacement therapy
Overall goal of this training is to foster the trainee’s development into an independent care provider and researcher in the field of dialysis.
The program intends for its post graduates to contribute to a new generation of academic dialysis professional equipped to address the challenging problems in renal replacement therapy
Focus
Students are trained to conduct dialysis and special extra corporeal procedures like continuous renal replacement therapy, plasmapheresis and hemadsorption. They get exposure to various types renal cases posted for dialysis. They also acquire teaching skills and leadership qualities during PG level.
Careers Prospectus
After the completion of this program students will find a challenging career in a hospital with dialysis unit offering health care setups, teaching job at institutes offering dialysis technology education or program education programs, technical jobs also available for dialysis technology graduates. Dialysis equipment repair and maintenance tasks can be carried out by them. They may also find a job at firms manufacturing, research and marketing dialysis equipment.
