Message from the Head - Dr Neeta Inamdar
It’s my pleasure to welcome you to the Department of European Studies – a multidisciplinary, multilingual, multicultural platform that brings together people and ideas from different regions of the world. This multicultural composition is found in teacher as well as student community at the Department. If teachers from Italy, Spain, France and Germany come together to teach the master program and language courses, students also are from various academic backgrounds and cultures from different parts of the country and the world.
MA European Studies, a flagship program of the Department is unique and the only one of its kind in the entire country. This has made many student exchanges possible with partner universities in Germany, France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Latvia, Poland and many more. It is a matter of pride that all the students of MA European Studies of 2013 batch have been selected for scholarships to study a part of their program in Europe; five out of them for Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
Certificate Courses in German and Spanish offered by the Department, and French courses offered by Alliance Francaise present on campus have found a lot of takers in the last couple of years. More than 250 students study languages in any semester with numbers increasing every year.
These activities make DES a very vibrant and pulsating campus that on one hand encourages connectedness with the world simultaneously appreciating rootedness of the people and thus upholding the spirit of multiculturalism.
