Dr. Alfred J Augustine

Dr. Augustine hails from Bangalore. He obtained his MBBS degree from St. Johns Medical College, Bangalore and MS (General Surgery) from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, PGIMER, Chandigarh. 


Dr. Augustine joined KMC, Mangalore in 1997 and has served the institution in various capacities. He served as Head of the Department of Surgery, KMC Mangalore from 2010-2015.Dr. Augustine has to his credit about 30 publications in various National and International Journals. He is also the Principal Investigator for surgical clinical trials for various grants.

Dr. Augustine was instrumental in establishing the Surgical Technology Learning Center at KMC Hospital Attavar, Mangalore which contains state of the art endotrainers to train laparoscopic skills. It also has basic suturing technique demonstration infrastructure and manikins for acute critical care training such as endotracheal intubation, ICT placement and cardiac resuscitation.

Life Philosophy

Dr Augustine is passionate about minimal invasive surgeries. His areas of interest in his specialization include Laparoscopic Surgery especially minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery, performing basic laparoscopic surgery - cholecystectomy, appendicectomy, diagnostic laparoscopy, adhesiolysis, advanced laparoscopic surgery – inguinal hernia TEP, incisional and ventral hernia repair, fundoplication, splenectomy, colorectal (Right hemicolectomy, sigmoid resection, anterior resection, rectopexy)

His special interests are travelling and trekking in the Western Ghats and Himalayas
