Interactive Pathology

Indian Association of Pathologists & Microbiologists Karnataka Chapter SK-Unit along with department of Pathology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru organised a “Interactive Pathology” CME on 26th February 2017 at the Medical Education hall. It was aptly named as it was an interactive, conjunct and a reciprocative event involving faculty and delegates from six institutes in and around Mangaluru and Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. The CME was conducted with the purpose to ignite the young minds of the post graduates and to keep abreast the delegates with the recent advances of Pathology.
“Tell me and I forget, Teach me and I may remember, Involve me and I learn.” as rightly said by Benjamin Franklin, the entire endeavour of learning became more enlightening and enduring.
The inaugural session was chaired by Dean KMC Mangaluru Dr. M Venkatraya Prabhu, Dr. Hema Kini, Head of Department Pathology KMC Mangaluru, Dr. Flora D Lobo President KCIAPM-SK UNIT, Dr. Jyoti Kini Secretory KCIAPM-SK UNIT & Dr. Pooja K S Joint treasurer KCIAPM-SK UNIT.
The lamp of knowledge was lit by the chairpersons followed by a prayer to the Almighty, by Dr. Flora D Lobo. Dr. Prabhu appreciated the efforts of the department of pathology and emphasised the importance of interactive sessions in current post graduate teaching programmes.
The CME included a string of enthralling cases, presented by two post graduates of each institute namely Kasturba Medical College, Father Muller Medical College, K S Hedge Medical Academy, Yenepoya Medical College, AJ Shetty Institute Of Medical Sciences and Kasturba Medical College, Manipal. The case presentations were judged by two eminent pathologists, Dr. Ravi Kumar from Mysore and Dr. Anuradha CK Rao from Srinivas Medical College.
The guest lectures by prominent faculty members were both comprehensive and intriguing. An insight into the latest molecular modalities in the detection of malaria was discussed by Dr. Urmila N Khadilkar, Professor, KMC Mangaluru. Dr. Kantilatha Pai, Professor, KMC Manipal discussed the complexities in the analysis of Borderline Ovarian Neoplasm. Dr. Sridevi HB, Associate Professor, KMC Mangaluru enlightened us about the 2016 WHO classification of Acute Leukaemias.
The best case presentation prize was awarded to Dr. Bhagat Singh Lali, KMC Mangaluru. Dr. Saraswathy Sreeram, Assistant Professor KMC Mangaluru thanked all the guest faculties and the delegates for making the programme a success.
