Impact of rapid diagnostic tests in patients with acute febrile illness presenting to a tertiary care hospital in South India: an open diagnostic intervention randomized controlled trial
The aim of this study is to understand the utility of using bedside rapid diagnostic tests (malaria, scrub typhus, leptospirosis and dengue) in improving outcomes in terms of lesser hospital stay, antibiotic consumption and 30-day mortality. The patients will be randomized into diagnostic intervention arm and control arm. The control arm will be managed according to routine care while in the diagnostic intervention arm, the results of diagnostic tests will be made available to the treating clinicians.
