Investigating the role of IFT52 and EXOC6B in human biology and disease using cell culture and Drosophila systems

2017-01-01 Upadhyai P Girisha KM

This project aims to achieve a detailed molecular and functional elucidation of IFT52 and EXOC6B, two genes recently implicated in skeletal disorders in India, using in vitro cell culture and in vivo Drosophila models. It will not only be relevant in enhancing our molecular understanding of the rare disease genes in question but will also contribute to the larger national aim of building an exhaustive knowledge base with a finer understanding of the cellular mechanisms underlying rare diseases discovered in Indian populations, which may be crucial for developing suitable therapeutics and precision medicine in India
