Integrated Program in Management


IPM provides an in-depth exposure to various areas of management and other branches of knowledge such as Biological sciences, Economics, History, Languages and Literature, Mathematics, Philosophy, Psychology, Social sciences and Statistics. This innovative program aims to identify and amplify the leadership potential of young men and women to enable them to shoulder challenging managerial and administrative responsibilities in the context of Indian and global organisations.

The Programme consists of 15 terms spread over a period of 5 years. IPM is delivered such that the first three years builds a strong foundation, and the last two years sharply focuses on management. The foundation has three major elements: There are about 100 courses.

  • Courses in Economics, Mathematics and Statistics to build logical ability and analytical rigour.
  • Courses in Political Science, Psychology and Sociology provide an understanding of the core disciplines on which the study of management is based.
  • Courses in Engineering, Fine Arts, Humanities, Literature and Science provide the breadth and perspective.


At the end of the five-year academic experience, the candidates who have successfully completed the (program) academic requirements would be awarded the degree of an MBA along with BA (Foundations in Management) degree.

Eligibility Criteria

The Five-Year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) is meant for those candidates who have completed their standard XII/Higher Secondary Education (HSE) from a recognized board or equivalent with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or those appearing in the relevant academic year.

Program Features


  • An effective manager should visualize the change in the context in which he is operating and bring about the change. IPM prepares participants to appreciate and play this role.
  • IPM provides appropriately trained manpower who would explore effective management in sectors other than business. Needless to emphasize, India needs talented managers in several (social, voluntary, non‐commercial) sectors other than the business sector.
  • In order to train such managers who can bring about change, the design and delivery of a holistic management curriculum is a pre‐requisite. The Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) is precisely aimed at such an opportunity.
  • The holistic curriculum with a motivation to prepare managers who can conceive and supervise change would provide an opportunity for the participants to realize their leadership potential.

Duration and courses

  • The minimum duration for completion of IPM is five years and comprises of fifteen trimesters.
  • Each trimester is for a duration of 13 weeks (including examinations).
  • In each trimester there would be 6 courses amounting to 90 courses.


Program (Tuition) fee

For Indian students, the fee for the first 3 years is Rs. 3 lakhs and for 4th & 5th year is Rs. 4.5 lakhs, totalling to Rs. 18 lakhs.
For International students, the fee for the first 3 years is USD 6400 and for 4th & 5th year is USD 9500, totalling to USD 38,200.

Exit Option

There is an exit option for the student at the end of the completion of the third year of the Five Year Integrated Programme in Management. The student has to pass all the papers of three years (148 credits with a minimum of 6.5 CGPA) to qualify for promotion to the fourth year. If the student does not qualify on the academic performance for the first three years, he will be asked to leave the program. A student who has completed fourth year of the program can leave the program after paying the fee for the fifth year, if he has a valid reason to pursue higher education or seek a job in a global location. Alternatively in the fifth year, a student can explore the option of spending up to one year under the twinning program with other Universities as per the existing norms.

    1.  Management/ Administration is always in a context.
    2.  The action/ decision of any manager is within the organisation.
    3.  The interface between the context/ the environment and the firm cannot be ignored. As a matter of fact, more closely they are integrated the better the decisions are in terms of their effectiveness.
    4.  The context is decided by the social, societal, economic and the cultural aspects of the environment in which the firm is operating.
    5.  Understanding the environment, bring effectiveness in managerial decision making. It is not only understanding the environment that matters, it is the ability of the manager to incorporate the salient features of the environment in the decision-making process that adds to the effectiveness of the decisions made.
    6.  To understand the nuances related to the environment, environmental context an exposure to social sciences & humanities is necessary.
    7.  The introduction to social sciences and humanities is complemented by the exposure to liberal arts subjects like art, music, sculpture, dancing and painting in the IPM program to give a holistic view.

    Keeping all these things in mind, IPM program attempts to blend, the relevance of social sciences in the holistic management education.

    1.  The IPM students are exposed to basic disciplines of knowledge like arts, science, humanities, social sciences, mathematics, statistics, liberal arts, personality development, language skills, communication expertise, wellness related exposures followed by an in-depth exposure related to management concepts.
    2.  Multiple internships both in India as well as abroad, international exposure by exchange program help the participants to improve their expertise and perspective related to management discipline in multiple contexts.
    3.  The faculty mix consisting of subject experts from Manipal system, renowned retired faculty members from reputed institutions in India, practitioners from the industry add to the academic richness and practical aspects of the IPM course.
    4.  At the end of the 5th year, the candidates would be capable of managing at an appropriate level; for profit, Not-for profit, Start up, Government and Private organization.
    5.  The IPM aims to prepare the participants to realize their full potential and prepares them to assume leadership role in the respective organizations.
    6.  Manipal Centre for Business Practice (MCBP), a constituent unit of MAHE has developed a well-oiled placement system by which reputed organizations are routinely invited to take part in the placement process.
    7.  With the richness of the academic content of the IPM program and the visibility that MAHE is trying to create for this program, we do not see any difficulty in placing the IPM students in the most rewarding and enriching career opportunities.

    1.  The IPM course being offered by MCBP, an academic unit of MAHE. MAHE is the first institution in private sector in the country to be offred the status of Institute of Eminence by the MHRD. Therefore, the degree is being awarded by an Institute of Eminence approved by Government of India.
    2.  MAHE is a multidisciplinary university. It is well known for its school of medicines and related healthcare divisions like dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and other allied health services. It has a huge presence in the engineering education in the country. In addition, the university has basic sciences, humanities, social sciences, and liberal arts departments.
    3.  Because it is a multi-disciplinary university, MAHE has the ability to assemble faculty talent and expertise required for the IPM program. No other IPM program in this country is being offered in the vibrant university setting and therefore, this sets apart this IPM program from the rest of the program.

    1.  BBA/BCA + MBA is a good combination to explore appropriate job opportunities for young men and women in the formal sector.
    2.  By design, a BBA/BCA + MBA program is narrow focused and has strong emphasis on skill development.
    3.  Management being a perspective-based discipline, a skill-based learning may not be appropriate and usually produces suboptimal results and interms of career options and impactful career choices.
    4.  To succeed in a leadership role after MBA, the education needs to be holistic and broad based. The right attitude, personality development and harmony within oneself are critical.
    5.  IPM program aims to do this with every men and women who join the program. This aspect may not be included in a standalone MBA course due to inadequacy of time to cover the topic and lack of faculty resources.
    6.  The BBA course combined with an MBA would invariably leads to some overlap relared to subjects covered and hence not contributing to knowledge and deepening the understanding of the subject matter ( in this case it is management).
    7.  The IPM course emphasis on broad based complementary approach to conventional MBA and hence stands unique.
    8.  Law, Marketing, HR and strategy are better understood from a social sciences perspective and orientation.
    9.  The MBA program aims to prepared candidates for Managerial/administrative role.
    10.  The IPM program is designed to help the candidate to realize his potential and is aimed to help him to assume the role of a CEO in the near future.
    11.  The time duration required for a BBA+MBA program is exactly 5 years and the IPM program is designed to be for 5 years. However, if a student is doing an engineering and an MBA he will have to spend 6 years whereas he gets a holistic education by pursuing IPM in 5 year time

    1. The IPM program emphasizes an education related to Economics, Mathematics and Statistics because the fundamental belief that these disciplines contribute to strengthen the analytical abilities and a macro perspective of an individual, who is pursuing a management education.
    2. Economics provides an understanding of the micro and the macro issues in the context of an organization. Understanding demand and supply equations, pricing, resource deployment is important for an efficient and an effective decision making in the context of an organization.
    3. Organization is the unit in the relevant industry which is effectively an organ of the society. Microeconomics helps students to understand the linkages between the society, industry and the organization.
    4.  Deeper understanding of the micro/macro economics enables the participants/ potential managers to understand the linkages between business strategy, public policy and vice versa.
    5.  Mathematics provides a logical framework to make decisions. While the techniques are important, the development of analytical reasoning as a consequence of exposure to Mathematics would help mangers to make appropriate decisions in their work life. IPM program focusses on the applications and not on the technical aspects of Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science or Data Sciences.
    6.  Statistics enable managers to understand and appreciate uncertainty in a better way. Uncertainty is routinely encountered by managers in day to day life. Exposure to subjects like data sciences, artificial intelligence, machine learning all help managers to augment their intuition in making appropriate decisions in a context which is characterized by complexity and uncertainty.
    7.  In essence, exposure to subjects like economics, mathematics and statistics and data sciences provides the necessary analytical skills to managers in making appropriate decisions.
    8.  The philosophy in the IPM program is to introduce the subjects such as Economics, Mathematics and Statistics with a focus on the application of the concept rather than emphasizing on the tools and techniques.
    9.  A manger who is exposed to adequate knowledge in Economics, Mathematics, Statistics and Data Sciences would be able to make a better decision in a given context than someone who is not exposed to these subjects in a systematic way. The IPM program is precisely aimed to do this so that it can equip the managers to make better decisions in the most challenging conditions.
