The program was inaugurated by Lt. Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh VSM (Retd), Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Manipal. He highlighted the importance of curriculum revision and explained the impact of curriculum revision particularly from the point of view of accreditation status and ranking agency. He also emphasized that student should be competent and globally competitive. He also opined that inclusion of social science and humanities in the curriculum is required for the holistic development. He raised concern on decreasing preference by the students to pursue core branches of engineering. He also stressed on the importance of inculcating life-long learning.

The invited speaker from academia, Prof. H S Jamadagni, former professor and chairman, DESE, IISc, Bangalore spoke on “Engineering Curriculum - an overview”.  He suggested to redefine the project work and assessment methodology.  He recommended introduction of gamification in to the teaching methodology. He also emphasized on the need for encouraging collaboration, research, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation at UG level.  

Mr Kumar Subramanian, Principal Engineer, Intel Corporation, who is also an alumnus of MIT Manipal, spoke on Graduate Engineer- Industry Expectations. He mentioned about the technical and domain specific skills expected by Industry. Mr Kumar stressed the need for strong mathematical foundation and focusing on fundamentals in UG curriculum. He strongly advocated for being ethical and transparent.

This was followed by presentations from  alumni of the Electrical Science Stream. Mr. Rajendra Kuradi and Mr. Gaurav Agarwal from Bimedical engineering, Mr. Yash Goyal from Electronics and Communication engineering,   Mr. Joswin Noronha and  Mr. Saurav Kuila from Instrumentation and control engineering, Mr. Naman Jain from Mechatronics,  Ms Diksha Singh from Electrical and Electronics, and from BME gave presentations on their views and expectations from UG Curriculum.

Student and Faculty representatives from Electrical Science Streams presented their views on the curriculum related to their programs. Ms. Swara Singh, Mr. Dhruv. B. Salvadi, Mr. Rushil Varshney, Ms. Malaaika M Chhaya, Mr. Goutham T S and Mr. Neehal Aasheesh  spoke from student side.   Dr. Pramod K and Mr.Winston Netto spoke as faculty representatives on their dream curriculum.

Ms. Apeksha Manoj, Mr Pranav Bharadwaj, Ms. Anjali Mishra, Mr. Achyut Saxena, presented poster on their Dream Curriculum from student side. This was followed by poster presentations from faculty members.  Mr. James Pinto,  Dr Priyanka Desai, Dr. Jeevan, Mr. Mukund Kumar Menon and Dr.Ishwar Biradi presented their posters.

The event also had a group discussion among the students and faculty participants on the relevant topics. Five student groups and three faculty groups participated in the group discussion. The group leaders highlighted the outcome of group discussion.  

Dr. Raviraja Adhikari, Associate Director (Academics), presented the initial draft of B.Tech Curriculum 2022.

Cdr. Dr. Anil Rana, Director of MIT Manipal gave away the concluding remarks and summarized the proceedings. He appreciated the valuable inputs received from all the stakeholders and the outcomes from the group discussion. In addition, he reiterated that environmental impact should be kept in mind while designing and finalizing the engineering solutions.

Dr. Shankaranarayana Bhat, Associate Director (FD&W), delivered the welcome address in the beginning and presented the overview of the event.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr. Somashekara Bhat, Joint Director, MIT Manipal. He emphasized on incorporating entrepreneurship, employability and research in UG curriculum

The Master of Ceremonies for the event were Dr. Arun Parameswarn, Associate Professor from Department of E & E and Mr Suhas M V, Assistant Professor-Senior Scale from Department of electronics and communication engineering.  Ms. Rajitha K V , Assistant Professor - Senior Scale, from Biomedical engineering, Ms. Bhagya R Navada , Assistant Professor - Senior scale, from Instrumentation and Control engineering and Dr. Shilpa Suresh, Assistant Professor from Mechatronics rendered the Invocation.

This event was organized by Office of the Faculty Development and Welfare, under the leadership of Dr. Shankaranarayana Bhat, Associate Director (FD&W).

About 200 participants comprising of faculty members, students and alumni of MIT attended the online event.
