An online webinar session on the topic “Information Processing Techniques for Mobile Sensing Applications at Scale” – focusing on how IoT systems are used in real-world problems was conducted by TCS. The main resource person for the session was Dr Prasant Misra, Scientist in TCS Research and Innovation, TATA Consultancy Services Ltd., Bangalore and was organized by the Office of Faculty Development and Welfare, as per the following schedule:

Time:  2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Mode: Online using MS Teams

In the session, Dr Prasant Misra described the traffic congestion and parking violation issues in metropolitan cities, and the approaches to solve the problem.  The current practices and the limitations were also highlighted.

The speaker gave a detailed analysis of an end-to-end design and implementation of StreetHAWK for parking violation monitoring and the feasibility of a smartphone-based edge system.

The session also focused on the following aspects

·      Visual sensing with mobile phones.

·      Acoustic sensing with drones.

·      Drone aided aerial search & emergency response system

·      RF sensing with sensor nodes.

Faculty members and students from various departments of MIT attended the online session.

Dr. Shankaranarayana Bhat, Associate Director (FD&W), welcomed the gathering. Dr. Prashanth was introduced by his colleague Mr Praveen Chandran from TCS who was instrumental in arranging the webinar through the Academic Interface Program of TCS.  Finally, Dr Sandhyalaxmi, Assistant Director (FD&W) delivered the vote of thanks.
