“The UK has benefited greatly by the doctors trained in India. There are more than 25,000 of these doctors on the register of the General Medical Council, the highest number from any one region outside the European Union. And that includes hundreds of graduates from this great university,” said Mr. Niall Forbes Ross Dickson, Chief Executive of General Medical Council (GMC) & Chair of IAMRA, London while addressing the gathering at the 22nd Convocation of Manipal Academy of Higher Education at the Dr TMA Pai Hall in Mangaluru on May 21, 2016.He said that the contributions they have made, and are making, was incalculable. Of course, now they are being supplemented by thousands of UK medical students of Indian origin who are again giving so much and enriching our diverse culture. Expressing happiness on being invited as the Chief Guest for the event he said; “It is a great privilege to celebrate with a university that is not just among the most eminent in India but is also a world class institution – a body with international standing, with number one status for research among Indian private institutes and able to attract students from 57 different countries around the globe. The International Association of Medical Regulators is honoured to have Manipal as a partner within our Association”.
To the students he said: “For many of you it marks not only the culmination of many years of hard work, but also entry into one of the noblest set of professions mankind has developed, caring professions that helps to define our humanity – and to become part of it, is a wonderful achievement. “Convocation is a day to celebrate and today marks the passage to a new stage in life,” he said. “I have no doubt that you will forget what I say, but for just about everyone in this hall, today will be one of those unforgettable days.
Indeed, unforgettable for the 500-odd undergraduate and post graduate students and PhD scholars who received their certificates from Mr Niall Dickson and the top officials of the University.
