Madhava Kripa corner glory in Science Day competitions

Madhava Kripa School, Manipal cornered all the glory at the National Science Day Competitions organized by Manipal School of Life Sciences on behalf of Manipal Academy of Higher Education. The month-long activity which began with the science seminar contests ended with the science exhibition and prize distribution on Friday at Fortune Inn Valley View on February 28, 2014. Prof H.P. Khincha, former Vice Chancellor of VTU, Belgaum was the chief guest.
Registrar of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dr G.K.Prabhu in his welcome address said the University has been organizing Science Day programme every year for the last seven years. “The objective of celebrating National Science Day in such a manner is to create interest among school children in basic science research. For that, several activities in the form of competitions are held”.
“Children from the schools belonging to Academy of General Education and Dr TMA Pai Foundation take part in three competitions i.e. Science Seminar, Science models and drawing. Sixteen schools with 20 students each took part in the activities this year,” he said. A residential training programme for class nine students who top in science is held every year. This year 24 students participated in the week-long training programme.
Talking of Science Day Prof Khincha said, “Today is a day when we start thinking what science is all about. For me it is an opportunity to think what science is all about. We also think how science is done and what scientists do and what I should do.” He urged the students to inspiration from scientists.
The competitions were in two sections, for High School and Higher Primary. Madhav Kripa won four first prizes and two second in both categories. In Science Seminar they bagged both first prizes through Anitha R Bhat in the Higher Primary and Suraj Kumar High School sections respectively. Their other firsts came in Science Drawing, both sections. In the Science Model, they landed a second apiece.
Indrali English Medium Higher Primary School, Indrali and TA Pai EMHS Kunjibettu were the other schools to win first prizes in Science Model Higher Primary and High Schools sections respectively.
The runners-up were: Science Seminar -- Pradyumna, Indrali EM Higher Primary School (Higher Primary) and Shreya K Shetty, TA Pai EMHS (High School); Science Drawing – Mukunda Kripa School, Udupi (Higher Primary) and TA Pai EMHS, Kunjibettu.
