Manipal Academy of Higher Education celebrates National Science Day

“India has not been able to transform discoveries of Indian scientists into technology. That has been done by others,” said Dr S. Ananth Raj, executive secretary, Vision Group of Science and Technology (VGST), Government of Karnataka while addressing students of 13 high schools and eight higher primary schools belonging to Academy of General Education and Dr TMA Pai Foundation on the occasion of the concluding function of National Science Day celebrations of Manipal Academy of Higher Education at Fortune Inn Valley View on February 28, 2015.

Dr Raj said that Indian scientists, C.V.Raman, Jagdish Chandra Bose, Srinivasa Ramanujam and Praful Chandra Ray have all contributed immensely to science, but India has not developed the technology other countries have done that. Addressing about 400 students of these schools he fired their scientific temper by talking in details about science. He even gave a brief of the VGST sponsored student projects. His speech was built around the adage, “I heard I forgot, I saw I remembered, I did I understood”. With that he emphasized the importance of Science.

Earlier, Registrar of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dr G.K. Prabhu gave a brief of the Science Day celebrations in Manipal Academy of Higher Education and welcomed the gathering. Dr H.S. Ballal also spoke on the occasion and congratulated the students for taking part in the science competitions.

On Friday, the Science Exhibition at School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal held as part of National Science Day celebrations was inaugurated by Dr. Vishal R, Deputy Commissioner, Udupi District and Dr. H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal in the presence of Dr. G.K. Prabhu, Registrar, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. The exhibition which was on display on Saturday as well, was seen by hundreds of school students. The exhibition is organized by School of Life Sciences under the guidance of the Director, Dr. K. Satyamoorthy.
