World Suicide Prevention Day – 2020
Suicide Prevention Day is observed worldwide every year on September 10th. One of the leading causes of death globally is suicide. Suicide may be prevented, if the warning signs are recognised and timely counselling and psychological support is provided to the individual. Since three consecutive years, the theme for the World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is “Working together to Prevent Suicide”, which highlights that everyone has a role to play in the prevention of suicide.
World Suicide Prevention Day – 2020 - A webinar on “Early detection of the warning signs and prevention of suicide” was organised by Manipal College of Nursing on 10th September 2020 through the online Google Meet platform for the Primary and High School Teachers of Udupi District.

Alzheimer’s Day
Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It is substantially increased among people aged 65 years or more, with a progressive decline in memory, thinking, language and learning capacity. It is estimated that every 3 seconds, someone in the world develops dementia.
Department of Psychiatric / Mental Health Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal observed the Alzheimer’s week from 21st to 26th September 2020 to sensitize the general public and adults regarding the early identification, prevention and treatment of Dementia.

Cultural Committee Programme
To promote the Indian culture, art and tradition, the Cultural Coordination committee conducts various events throughout the year to nurture and preserve values of culture, music and art among younger generation.
These activities are also aimed to orient them towards standards of equality, justice and a humanist culture. These activities are held throughout the year and eminent people in their respective fields are invited from all over India and abroad to take part in these programmes.
Some of the areas picked by the Committee to provide exposure to the students are:
- Local theatrical arts
- Literature, music, painting, cinema and other fine arts
- History and philosophy of science
- Cultural responses to globalization
- Ecology and environment
- Culture, religion and philosophy
- Functional knowledge of local and foreign languages
