International Women’s Day

Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal celebrated International Women’s Day-2020, around the central theme of “#Each for Equal” on 06 March at Anganwadi, Sampigenagar, Udyavar. The program focused on the promotion of gender equality, especially the equal treatment of male and female children within families. Along with the need for women to be more knowledgeable about their rights, emphasis was also on the urgent need for health insurance. In this regard, the main tenets of the Ayushman Bharat, Aarogya Karnataka were explained. Mrs. Nethra, Head Constable, Manipal Police station focussed on equality, safety and security among women; the laws and rights of women. She illustrated various situations where women were exposed to several problems and the ways to tackle them. She also mentioned why and how women need to be more active, assertive and alert and they should definitely not hesitate to get help from legal services. Dr. Malathi G Nayak, Associate Professor, MCON, MAHE, Manipal explained women’s health in detail. She emphasised on the roles of diet, exercise and health check-ups for their daily wellbeing. She also spoke about the consequences of neglecting one’s own health, the common health problems and how to prevent them. Mr. Prathap Kumar, President, Lions Club, said women need to be supportive of one another as women in order to create an environment conducive to women’s independence and empowerment. Mrs. Namratha, Anganwadi teacher expressed that the program was very informative and useful for the audience. She appreciated the participation of Self-help group members, Anganwadi teachers and the wider community. The program came to a close with a vote of thanks by Mrs Manjula, the coordinator of the program.
