MARENA: PLAY IT HARD

As Manipal receives rain for almost six months of the year making it difficult for outdoor sporting activities, MAHE put in place state-of-the-art sports facilities including an indoor sports complex in alignment with international standards. It is one of the largest and best-equipped sports centres in the country aimed at ensuring that the six long months of monsoon in the region does not disrupt the fitness regimen of students and staff. This Indoor stadium, Marena, is equipped with a rubberised jogging track; a gymnasium with cardiovascular equipment, weights, strength training and flexibility machines; four squash courts with a viewing gallery; a basketball court built with NBA specifications; five badminton courts; a cricket bowling machine; a swimming pool, a futsal play area; a kinesis circuit system, five enclosures for simulation games, and a sauna and steam bath. Besides these facilities, the indoor complex also has facilities for simulated games for the benefit of sports enthusiasts. Besides MARENA, additional sports facilities are available at various locations on Manipal campus. The Manipal Academy of Higher Education Sports Council organises various intra-and-inter-University sporting activities every year, for example, Athletics, Basketball, Badminton, Best Physique, Chess, Cricket, Cross Country Race, Football, Hockey, Swimming, Squash, Table Tennis, Tennis, Throw ball and Volley ball – The Best players from each of these events are sent to Inter-University tournaments; South Zone and Inter Zone Inter-University tournaments; and National, State and District tournaments, together with National and International Conferences, among many others. In addition to this, Inter-class competitions/tournaments, All India Inter Medical Tournament MIST, All India Inter Engineering tournament REVELS, and Cricket Premier League for the Corporate Companies are also regularly organised.
