Overview

While the philosophies around the world – Eastern and Western – have contributed significantly to the structure of knowledge, the Indian philosophical traditions provide a similar yet varied worldviews contributing to the knowledge ecosystems.

In this regard, the Indian intellectual traditions, which also include Vedic and other philosophical schools of thoughts, have constructively contributed to the development of Indian knowledge systems. Over the centuries, different schools of Indian philosophy have added manifold dimensions as well as offered hermeneutic explanations and critical interpretations to this repository of knowledge.

The two-year Master’s Program and one-year PG Diploma in Indian Philosophy is designed to facilitate a scientific understanding of the Indian discourses on Epistemology, Metaphysics and Ethics, thereby enabling the learner to access knowledge sources (seminal texts in Indian discourses) through dialectics.

The discipline of Indian philosophy postulates the adequate knowledge of philosophical language and conceptual understanding presented in the dialectic traditions. Considering the present modus operandi towards the subject i.e., either the traditional text-based study or concept-based study, also referring to secondary sources. Against this backdrop, the Programs endeavour to examine the meaning and implication of contemporary philosophical problems along with their historical antecedents by building an interface between conceptual analysis and textual interpretation in commitment to philosophical rigour. Further, the Programs seek to expand its sphere of concern through its each module – Language and Linguistics, Epistemology, Metaphysics and Literary Studies – by adopting a trans-disciplinary approach in engaging with allied disciplines.
