DHR-ICMR Sponsored Workshop on ‘Clinical and Translational Research for Precision Oncology’

Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, and Manipal School of Life Sciences, MAHE, Manipal have organized a workshop on ‘Clinical and Translational Research for Precision Oncology’, sponsored by DHR-ICMR, from 29 March to 1 April 2023 at the Department of Medical Education, MAHE.

Dr. Mahadev Rao, Professor and event convenor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, along with the organizing secretaries, Dr. Karthik S Udupa, Professor and Head of Medical Oncology, KMC, Manipal, Dr. Shama Prasada K, Professor and Head, Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, Manipal School of Life Sciences and  Dr. Rama Rao Damerla, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Genetics, KMC, Manipal have received a workshop grant from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Government of India, New Delhi, INDIA.

The workshop's inaugural function was conducted on 29 March 2023 at 10.15 AM. Dr Mahadev Rao welcomed the gathering. Dr Karthik S Udupa gave an overview of the workshop and highlighted that this workshop is meant to disseminate knowledge in the area of translational research through a multidisciplinary and multi-institutional integrated learning approach so that the researchers are better equipped to integrate information from multiple domains and conduct independent or team-oriented research, thereby contributing to improved national and global health.

Guest of Honor of the program, Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean & Professor of Urology, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, in his address mentioned the importance of precision medicine for deriving maximum clinical benefit to patients. Guest of honor Dr. C Mallikarjuna Rao, Principal, Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, MAHE, addressed the gathering on the importance of translational research in bridging laboratory and clinical research. Dr. Shama Prasada K added his thoughts on the role of basic science knowledge in the field of comprehensive translational research. Dr. Surulivel Rajan M, Head, Department of Pharmacy Practice, thanked the gathering. A total of 35 delegates including Faculties, Ph.D. Scholars and PG students from different institutes are participating in the workshop.
