September 26, 2016
MAPS in collaboration with ISPOR-MUSC celebrated FIP World Pharmacists Day on 24th and 25th of September 2016. In accordance to the theme generated by FIP for 2016- Pharmacists: Caring for you patients were counselled in the Out Patient pharmacy of Kasturba Hospital and at Manipal Drug House. Over 150 patients received counselling regarding their medication. Nearly fifty MCOPS’ students helped in conducting the counselling session. Later in the evening, an essay and cartooning competition was conducted on the topics “Importance of safe use of medicines” and “Drug abuse” respectively. Students actively participated in the above events. On the 25th, thirty pharmacy students along with Dr Kanav Khera and Dr Girish Thunga [faculty of department of pharmacy practice] visited slum areas to spread awareness regarding alcohol abuse and smoking among the inhabitants. Information leaflets on the issues were distributed to the inhabitants. A skit depicting the ill-effects of alcohol and smoking was performed by the students. The skit was well appreciated by the audience. With the efforts of the volunteers, the events were successfully conducted and World Pharmacists Day 2016 became a memorable day.
