Tobacco Awareness Skit: “One Puff – A Lifetime Loss”
As part of the District Tobacco Control Programme organised by the District Health and Family Welfare Department, a group of enthusiastic Public Health students from Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Manipal conducted an awareness activity on the harmful effects of tobacco use at Upendra Pai Memorial College, Udupi on October 29, 2025.
The event was coordinated by Dr Varun Kumar S G (Coordinator, CRD, PSPH, Manipal) and organised under the banner of the Centre for Regional Development (CRD), Prasanna School of Public Health (PSPH), Manipal in collaboration with the District Surveillance Office (DSO), Udupi.
To engage the audience meaningfully, the team performed a skit titled “One Puff – A Lifetime Loss.” The story follows Aisha, a college student who, influenced by peers, starts smoking—only to face serious health consequences. A turning point comes when she learns about a real-life tragedy caused by tobacco addiction, inspiring her to quit and choose a healthier path.
Through this performance, they sought to spread awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and encourage young people to make informed, healthy life choices.
It was a rewarding and memorable experience for all of them, as they united to promote the vision of a tobacco-free society.
