Celebrating: The National Nutrition Week

With the motive to intensify awareness on the importance of nutrition for health, an annual nutrition event is observed in the country from 1 to 7 September every year. The National Nutrition Week (NNW), as it is called, was conceived by the Food and Nutrition Board in the year 1982 as an annual event. This year the theme of the NNW was ‘Poshak Aahar Desh Ka Aadhar’ (Good Nutrition is the Foundation of the Nation).The Department of Allied Hospitality Studies, WGSHA, Manipal Academy of Higher Education organized a series of events to mark the NNW. The week began with various competitions held on September 2, 2014. A poster competition on the theme ‘Poshak Aahar Desh Ka Aadhar’ was organized, where participants in a team of two, showcased their creativity by making beautiful posters. Prof. Y.G. Tharakan, Dr.Veena Kamath, and Mrs. Shreelatha Rao were the judges for the competition. The poster competition was followed by ‘The Health Chef’ – a cooking competition where participants were supposed to cook nutritious recipes without using fire. Mrs. P. Gopalakrishnan, Principal, WGSHA, Mr. K. Thirugnanasambantham and Mr. P. Valsaraj judged the competition. The panel of judges was impressed by the work of the participants and appreciated their talent. The event was a great success with active participation from the students of MSc. DAN and MSc. HTM courses of the university.
