Clinical outcome correlation among newly diagnosed lupus nephritis patients in relation to peripheral blood lymphocyte subset, renal tissue inflammatory cell distribution and immunosuppressive regimen: A prospective observational study

Principal Investigator: Dharshan Rangaswamy

Co-investigators: Dr Karthik Balasubramaniam, Dr. Shankar Prasad Nagaraju, Dr. Ravindra Prabhu Attur.

Funding agencies: Intra-mural

Brief overview:

Lupus nephritis (LN) is known to be associated with significant morbidity and mortality and is often treated aggressively with immunosuppressants. This could predispose to an increased risk of infections and sepsis related mortality. Better stratification of LN patients would help to develop customized patient centric as against a common disease specific treatment protocol. We attempt to design simple, non - invasive protocol to identify discernible groups among LN patients based on peripheral blood lymphocyte subset and correlate with clinical presentation, renal histology and treatment outcomes in a prospective observational study
