Effect of Red Bull energy drink on auditory reaction time and maximal voluntary contraction
Critical analysis of red bull energy drinks on muscle performance and reaction time in healthy student volunteers
2014-01-01 Vartika Goel
In summary, the present study was aimed at investigating the effect of Red Bull Energy drink (RB) on muscle endurance and fatigue. The Auditory reaction time (ART) was recorded to detect the enhancement in attention component of cognition. After one hour of intake of the drink, maximum isometric force (MVC) and electromyogram (EMG) were recorded from the dominant hand using Biopac Systems. The Red Bull energy drink (caffeine at 2mg/kg body weight) showed a significant delaying effect on fatigue during isometric contraction and improved auditory reaction time compared to control drink.
