Comparison of serum human placental lactogen and zinc levels with calculated risk score generated in women undergoing first trimester screening

Dr.Indranil Ghoshal Dr. Krishnananda Prabhu Dr Varashree BS

First trimester screening(dual test) is a prenatal test that gives early information about chances of a baby born with certain chromosomal anomalies. It involves estimation of free beta hCG and PAPP A in maternal blood. Human Placental Lactognen (HPL) is present only during pregnancy with maternal serum level rising in relation to the growth of the fetus and placenta. It has been seen that serum zinc level is related with serum PAPP A level. Calculated risk score generated after dual test does not take into account serum HPL and zinc. we would like to study whether HPL and zinc levels alone or in combination with dual test or dual test alone are better predictors of risk of Downs and other chromosomal anomalies
