Manipal, November 15, 2024:
Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) successfully inaugurated "Inspire Junior 2024" today at KMC–Greens Manipal, a two-day event dedicated to instilling a passion for science and research among students in grades eight through twelve. This initiative, which continues through November 16, provides a dynamic platform for young minds to explore various scientific fields, aiming to foster a vibrant research culture across the Udupi district and beyond.

The opening ceremony saw the presence of eminent MAHE leaders, including Dr. HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, who emphasised the importance of nurturing intellectual curiosity in youth. “The future of our nation depends on the intellectual capital we nurture today. Inspire Junior is a step toward empowering the next generation to think critically, explore boldly, and contribute meaningfully to the world of science,” he said.

Dr. Sharath Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor, Health Sciences MAHE, echoed this sentiment, expressing his hope that Inspire Junior would help cultivate an interest in health sciences early in students' academic journeys, giving them a firsthand view of the impactful nature of a career in health sciences. He added, “All parents and students from across the region are encouraged to join Inspire Junior’s second day tomorrow. The upcoming sessions promise even more exciting experiences and unique insights, providing students with an unparalleled glimpse into the world of scientific discovery.”

Dr. Narayana Sabhahit, Pro Vice Chancellor, Technology and Science, highlighted the event’s interdisciplinary focus, stating, “Interdisciplinary collaboration and scientific inquiry are the cornerstones of innovation. Inspire Junior is an opportunity for students to see beyond traditional boundaries and imagine new ways of addressing the world’s pressing challenges.”

Dr Raviraja N. Seetharam, Chief Operating Officer, MAHE, Manipal, emphasised the broader vision, noting, “Our aim is to make science accessible and exciting for students from all backgrounds. We hope Inspire Junior will serve as a launchpad, sparking curiosity and inspiring students to pursue research in various scientific fields.”

Inspire Junior features an array of interactive learning experiences, including guided tours of MAHE’s state-of-the-art laboratories, hands-on activities with scientific instruments, and exhibitions showcasing innovative experiments. Students have a unique opportunity to interact with specimens, view live demonstrations, and learn directly from MAHE’s esteemed researchers and faculty members. Faculty members are encouraged to bring their children, making this event an inclusive experience for the MAHE community.

With attendees from across the Udupi and neighbouring Dakshina Kannada districts, Inspire Junior 2024 has garnered an enthusiastic response. Over 50 school students from the area have joined in person, with nearly 10,000 more expected to participate virtually. This broad participation underscores a strong regional interest in scientific exploration and research-oriented learning.

Inspire Junior’s mission extends beyond showcasing scientific concepts; it seeks to build a research-oriented culture among youth and to enhance the research capabilities of both students and faculty members who are passionate about advancing careers in science and research. By promoting interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on learning, this event is designed to be a catalyst for change, laying the groundwork for future research excellence. Inspire Junior also offers training sessions for faculty to help them identify and leverage high-quality resources to enrich their teaching and research, creating a ripple effect that will benefit students and the broader scientific community.

With Inspire Junior 2024 underway, the excitement among students, parents, and faculty is palpable. MAHE’s commitment to fostering a culture of research excellence in the Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts is evident through this ambitious event. Inspire Junior stands as a testament to MAHE’s dedication to shaping the future of science and research, one student at a time.
