Manipal, January 25, 2025: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is proud to have played a key role in the Karnataka State Olympics 2024-25, inaugurated by Honorable Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on January 17 at Mangala Stadium in Mangaluru. The event, held from January 17 to 23 across Mangaluru and Udupi, brought together 4,000 athletes competing in various disciplines.

As part of its involvement, MAHE hosted key sporting events and facilitated athlete accommodation during the week-long Olympics. Hockey matches were held at the university’s renowned End Point Grounds in Manipal, while tennis and table tennis were organised at the state-of-the-art Marina Sports Complex. MAHE also accommodated 700 athletes in its hostels, providing them with comfortable and secure living arrangements throughout the competition.

The MAHE Sports Council played a vital role in coordinating the university’s contribution to the event, ensuring the smooth execution of logistical and operational support. MAHE’s participation in the Karnataka State Olympics reflects its unwavering commitment to fostering athletic excellence and promoting a culture of sportsmanship.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, said, “Sports and athletics are at the heart of holistic education. At MAHE, we are committed to supporting initiatives like the Karnataka State Olympics, which provide a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent. Our involvement reflects our dedication to nurturing sports and promoting the spirit of excellence.”

Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, VSM (Retd), Vice Chancellor, MAHE, emphasised the importance of community participation in such events, stating, “At MAHE, we believe in actively contributing to initiatives that uplift the sporting spirit and bring communities together. Hosting and supporting the Karnataka State Olympics has been a privilege, and we are proud to have extended our facilities and expertise to ensure the event's success. This aligns perfectly with our vision of developing holistic leaders who excel in every field, including sports.”

The Karnataka State Olympics 2024-25, organised under the aegis of the Karnataka State Olympic Association, was a celebration of athletic skill and community spirit. MAHE’s involvement, from hosting events to accommodating participants, underscored its dedication to advancing sports and empowering young athletes.
