MAHE Commemorates International Women’s Day

Manipal, March 08, 2024: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) celebrated International Women’s Day with a vibrant display of empowerment and inclusivity, echoing the theme of #InspireInclusion throughout its halls. The event, held at the prestigious Dr TMA Pai Auditorium, witnessed the convergence of luminaries and thought leaders committed to advancing gender equality and fostering a culture of diversity.
Dignitaries graced the occasion with their esteemed presence, including Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor, MAHE; Mrs Kusuma Venkatesh, Educationist; Mrs Indira S Ballal, Philanthropist, and Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE. Their collective presence underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in driving positive change in society.
Chief Guest Dr Shyama Narendranath KC, Scientist SF, ISRO, Bengaluru, shared her profound insights, stating, "It's truly an honour to join this event on International Women's Day. We must recognise and applaud the remarkable achievements of women who have contributed immensely to society. Women have continuously shattered barriers and excelled in various domains. However, there's still progress to be made towards achieving gender equality. Let's use this event as a catalyst to inspire more women to step forward and leave their mark on the world."
Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh VSM (Retd.), Vice Chancellor, MAHE, said, "As we come together to celebrate International Women's Day, it's important to understand that this event goes beyond just recognising women's achievements. It shows our strong commitment to creating a society where everyone, no matter their gender, can have the chance to do well. By embracing differences and including everyone, we're making a brighter future for everyone."
Dr H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, said, "When we see everyone working together for gender equality, it reminds us of how crucial women are in shaping our society. It's really important that we keep working together to support women and make sure they can achieve all they're capable of. Together, we can break barriers and create a world where everyone feels included and empowered."
The morning commenced with an invocation by students from MCON, Manipal, paying tribute to the institution's founding visionaries, Late Mrs. Sharada T Pai & Late Dr TMA Pai. The ceremony further witnessed engaging discussions, felicitations, and captivating performances, all aimed at celebrating the achievements and contributions of women across various fields.
The event also marked significant milestones, including the inauguration of 'Her World Her Rules - Women’s Basketball Clinic,' symbolising MAHE's commitment to promoting gender diversity in sports.
Attendees were treated to a colourful blend of tradition and modernity through captivating dance performances by MIT students and the vibrant display of Northeast Indian culture by Dr Elsa and her team.
The occasion culminated with a compelling Presidential Address by Mrs. Vasanti R Pai, Trustee - MAHE Trust, reaffirming the institution's unwavering dedication to gender equity and inclusivity.
Dr Rohit Singh, Director, Alumni Relations, extended a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and attendees for their invaluable contributions to making the event a resounding success.
The event was guided by Dr Reena Sherin Parveen, KMC, Manipal, who served as the Master of Ceremony, ensuring the smooth flow of proceedings and adding her own touch of grace to the event.
As attendees departed, they carried with them a renewed sense of purpose and commitment to championing the cause of women's empowerment and inclusion in all spheres of society.
