On 15 October, the second-year BAMC students of MIC were taken on a field trip to Mangalore, where they got an opportunity to visit the All India Radio Station as well as Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, where they gained valuable insights regarding the workings of the radio industry. The workshop kicked off with an in-depth tour of the entire All India Radio (AIR) office, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of one of India's most iconic broadcasting institutions. As they moved through the various departments, students were introduced to critical areas such as the playback studio, where audio content is prepared and refined for broadcast, and the transmitter room, which is responsible for sending radio signals across vast distances. Each department played a pivotal role in the overall operations of the station, and students were given a glimpse into the intricate processes that keep the station running smoothly day in and day out.

The guide took the time to explain how each department functioned in unison, from content creation to transmission, highlighting the teamwork and technology involved in producing a seamless broadcast. This behind-the-scenes look revealed the often unseen layers of radio production that contribute to the smooth delivery of on-air programs.

One of the highlights of the tour was a visit to a special room filled with traditional Indian musical instruments. This room, brimming with cultural heritage, housed a collection of instruments such as sitars, tablas, and harmoniums, often used in AIR's musical programs. The presence of these instruments underscored AIR's commitment to preserving and promoting Indian classical music. For the students, seeing these instruments up close added a cultural dimension to their technical learning.

After an insightful visit to the All India Radio station, the students headed to the vibrant office of Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, where they got an insider’s perspective on modern radio broadcasting. The tour took them straight into the recording studio, offering a hands-on look at the sophisticated equipment, including the console used to control live shows, and the full set-up that makes the magic of radio possible.

RJ Ajay, the charismatic voice behind the station’s popular morning show, warmly welcomed the students and shared a treasure trove of knowledge about what goes into creating a compelling radio program. He broke down the various elements that contribute to a successful show, explaining how a radio jockey must balance entertainment, information, and spontaneity to engage listeners. He also shared a few behind-the-scenes secrets, highlighting the importance of timing, energy, and personality in every broadcast.

The interaction wasn’t just about fun, though—RJ Ajay took the opportunity to demonstrate the technical side of the job as well. He introduced the students to the software used to manage music playlists, advertisements, and show links, even playing a few clips to show how seamlessly it all comes together during a live broadcast.
