Naada Habba 2024: A Celebration of Kannada Cinema and Culture

Manipal Institute of Communication came alive with vibrant festivities on November 6, 2024, as it hosted **Naada Habba**, a grand celebration of Karnataka Rajyotsava with the theme *Kannada Cinema*. The event, held at the MIC Auditorium from 4 PM to 8 PM, brought together over 150 attendees, including students, faculty, and staff, to honor the cultural heritage of Karnataka.
The highlight of the evening was the presence of renowned Kannada actor, director, and writer **Basuma Kodagu**, celebrated for his work in *Kantara*, who graced the event as the chief guest. Kodagu delivered a compelling keynote speech on the evolution and cultural significance of Kannada cinema, emphasizing its role in preserving Karnataka’s traditions.
The program commenced with the lighting of the lamp by Basuma Kodagu, Dr. Padma Rani (Director, MIC), Dr. Shubha H.S., and event coordinators **Diya Maddodi** and **Devendra Shenoy**. Faculty members performed the *Naada Geethe*, marking a soulful start to the event.
Cultural performances were a major draw, with Yakshagana acts by students Kathan, Praveen, and Sanjana, and a surprise act by faculty member Pratima Ma’am captivating the audience. Students also performed a dance tribute to Sandalwood cinema, blending traditional and cinematic themes seamlessly.
A screening of the blockbuster *Kantara* was accompanied by popcorn and juice, followed by an engaging discussion that delved into the movie's cultural and regional relevance.
Guests were treated to authentic Karnataka cuisine, including *Chitranna* and *Saat*, adding to the festive atmosphere.
“Kannada is not just a language; it is a sentiment that unites us all,” said Basuma Kodagu, leaving the audience inspired. The event concluded with applause for the organizers and participants, celebrating the spirit of Karnataka.
