School of Communication holds its Alumni Meet
Nearly 75 alumni of School of Communication drawn from various fields of media and communication participated in the Alumni Meet – 2014 held at the School premises, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Bonhomie, spirit of reunion, sharing experiences, music and dance marked the occasion, bringing back the memories of yesteryears.

Speaking on the occasion, institute Director Prof Varadesh Hiregange urged the upcoming communication professionals to be the “voice of the voiceless” , looking beyond one’s own self. “Our responsibility is to make an attempt to create more equitable society and our attention should turn towards the less fortunate. Take back the memory with you that can a make a difference to you and around,” he added.
Tracing the growth of the institute, Prof Hiregange said, the School today stands as one of the top four institutes in the country, according to different surveys. “The good feedback we are getting from the world outside on our alumni, is one of the reasons for our success. That is our proud moment,” he said.
The Alumni faculty coordinator Ms Shruthi Shetty urged the alumni that they should help strengthening the institute by contributing in whatever manner possible – be it placement or internship, teaching or creating goodwill. “Alumni are our great strength and reunion rejuvenates the institute,” she added. Other faculty members Dr Padma Rani and Ms H S Shubha also spoke.
The colourful motley of alumni shared their work experiences as well as sharing a solemn moment of their campus life with the audience. “One thing I have learnt from SOC is that we have the freedom to follow our hearts”, Ms Krisha D’Silva, an alumnus remarked. Ms Akshaya Ganesh added some poignant words of advice to the present students. “Make the best use of your time here. SOC memories are going to be the best memories of your life,” Ms Shalini and Mr Debsourabh Ghosh added. Students were gifted with a memorable souvenir.
