Industrial Engineering - Overview

Program Description

The B. Tech. in Industrial Engineering program beginning with the 2022 admission intake evolved from the earlier BTech Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) degree course to meet the needs of Industry 4.0 and society 5.0. The program structure prepares graduates of engineering to work as skilled System Engineers. The emphasis is on fundamental industrial engineering subjects such as data analytics and visualization, industrial internet of things (IIoT), industrial automation and robotics, supply chain management, operations research, lean manufacturing and six sigma, design of experiments, total quality management, and simulation modeling and analysis, as well as the associated computational mathematics and statistics. The curriculum exposes students to a variety of application domains such as manufacturing, fintech, business, and healthcare, all of which require industrial or system engineers to make informed judgments.

Focus

Industrial engineering is a branch of engineering that focuses on the design, development, and operation of systems ranging in size from a single piece of equipment to enormous organizations. Industrial engineers work in a variety of industries, from raw material production to manufacture to service. Industrial engineers find the most efficient use of people, machinery, materials, information, and energy in the production of a product or service. The industrial engineering program encompasses four distinct professional fields of study: product and process design, work analysis, decision sciences utilizing data analytics and machine learning approaches, and engineering-management science. Additionally, students are exposed to more specific fields such as automated manufacturing systems, information systems, quality management, operations research, and safety engineering.

Career Prospects

The placement cell, industry partners, and alumni network of the institution will support placement and internships as system engineers, data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, quality engineers, supply chain managers, business operations managers, and safety engineers. The programme is designed to prepare students for placements and internships in leading core and information technology firms, as well as in disciplines such as finance, business, economics, and healthcare. Additionally, the institution has partnered with overseas colleges and offers semester abroad programs. After completing the three-year B.Tech degree, students have the option of enrolling in an integrated Master's program at a partner university abroad.

Industry Collaborations

The Department has MoU's with Maini Group, Everest Blowers, Rimtex Engineering Private Limited, Signet, Ingersol Rand, CIPLA and Intel Unnati.
