Industrial and Production Engineering - Overview

   The manufacturing industries and service sectors today are continually looking forward to ways of reducing the costs to keep pace with the growing competition. Industrial and Production Engineering (I&PE) is a program that enables the engineers to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of both manufacturing firms and service sectors. The program deals with developing, improving, implementing and evaluating the integrated systems of people, money, knowledge, information, equipment, energy, material and the industrial process as a whole. The Industrial and Production Engineering Program was established in the year 1976 and is housed under the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.

    The program involves program core courses like Facility Planning and Design, Metrology & Measurements, Operations Research, Simulation Modeling & Analysis, Total Quality Management, Work system Engineering, Tool Engineering Design and Operations & Supply Chain Management that provides a clear demarcation from the conventional Mechanical Engineering Program. Besides, the program also houses the Computer-Aided Mechanical Drawing Lab, Operation Research Lab, Work System Engineering Lab, Simulation and Modeling Lab, and Quality Control Lab, wherein the students are trained in various industry-related software. The hands-on experience on Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Horizontal Machining Centre (HMC) and Vertical Machining Center (VMC) is also part and parcel of the I&PE program.

    The program is currently accredited for three years by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) and follows the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system prescribed by the Washington Accord that facilitates an undergraduate student to pursue his higher education in top-notch universities across the globe.
