M. Tech Manufacturing Engineering - Overview

M. Tech in Manufacturing Engineering (MFG) is a two-year postgraduate specialisation degree course offered by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. The PG program focuses on the requirements of the manufacturing industry broadly covering the major areas of manufacturing, production automation, production planning and control, product design, materials, machining processes and quality control. The curriculum has been framed drawing course contents from traditional fields such as materials and processes, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, up to the advanced fields such as CNC machining, metal forming, production automation systems, product design and manufacturing etc. The course also trains the students to develop skills in the utilization of the modern tools such as simulation, optimization, and statistical data analysis.  Overall, the course planned here, is committed to impart lifelong learning, gain leadership, improve managerial and team spirit skills to work effectively in various types of manufacturing industries. The PG program incorporates:

AIM 1: Impart the knowledge in manufacturing systems by acquiring skills in mathematics, materials, and manufacturing science principles and operations.

AIM 2: Synthesize, analyze, interpret and provide effective and efficient solutions to the real-time manufacturing engineering problems by considering the legal and societal impact.

AIM 3: Develop methodologies to solve multidisciplinary problems of manufacturing and allied industries by following professional ethics and environmental practices.

AIM 4: Committed to lifelong learning to gain leadership, managerial and team spirit skills to work effectively in various types of manufacturing industries.

PROGRAM LEARNING OUTCOMES (As per IET)

Post Graduates of the Manufacturing Engineering program must:

LO 1: Apply in-depth knowledge of science and engineering to synthesize, evaluate and integrate both existing and new technologies in Manufacturing Engineering systems, operations and activities.

LO 2:  Analyze the complex manufacturing engineering problems critically, by designing and applying suitable theoretical and practical concepts.

LO 3: Model the problem of a manufacturing system and evaluate a wide range of potential solutions to it and choose the most efficient and optimal one by considering public health and safety, societal and environmental factors.

LO 4: Compile information pertaining to critical research problems independently, through literature reviews and must solve the practical issues related to Manufacturing Engineering by adopting appropriate research methodology principles.

LO 5: Identify appropriate techniques, resources, modern engineering and IT tools to model and analyze the complex Manufacturing Engineering systems.

LO 6: Efficiently work in a team, and contribute to the collaborative-multidisciplinary project and research works to achieve common goals.

LO 7: Make use of the engineering and management principles as a member or leader, considering the economical aspects.

LO 8: Effectively communicate the complex Manufacturing Engineering activities through presentations, reports and documentations to the engineering community and society at large.

LO 9: Recognize the need, have the ability and readiness to engage in life-long learning and dedicate to enrich Manufacturing Engineering knowledge and skill.

LO 10:Practice the professional code of conduct, follow the ethics of research, and consider the impact of Manufacturing Engineering research outcomes and solutions, in the global and societal context.

M. Tech Manufacturing Engineering - Career Opportunities:
