The Department offers cutting edge clinical care in pancreatic diseases, inflammatory bowel disorders and high-end research in these two areas.

- Routine and emergency care of patients with gastrointestinal, hepatic & pancreatic disorders and related systemic disorders
- Training of MD (General Medicine) students during their rotation
- Training of post-MD (General Medicine) candidates for placement in DM training (Gastroenterology), supervising MD (General Medicine) dissertations
- Direct involvement in various research projects
- Diagnostic upper gastrointestinal and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, Endoscopic variceal and non-variceal injection therapy, band ligation, oesophageal dilatation, foreign body removal, endoscopic polypectomy
- Diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography including biliary & pancreatic duct stenting, papillotomy & stone extraction and nasobiliary drainage
- Liver biopsy, Crosby capsule jejunal biopsy, image guided biopsy and fine needle aspiration
- Percutaneous aspiration of liver abscess
- Diagnostic and therapeutic Endosonography
