Course Description:

The Medical retina and uvea fellowship is a one-year program. The goal of the program is to provide the student with the skills to enable him/her to practice as a medical retina and uvea specialist. By the end of the fellowship the candidate is expected to be competent in diagnosing and treating patients with medical retina and uveal disorders.

The program is structured to familiarise the candidate with all the state-of-the-art retinal investigations and to provide hands on training in treatment aspects. (Retinal lasers /ROP screening and treatment/intravitreal injections)

 

Focus: Clinical training, academic activities, research activities and outreach activities.

  • Clinical training: two outpatient (OP) days per week/Retina clinic /ROP screening   
  • Retinal laser procedures
  • Intravitreal injections
  • Academic activities:

o   Seminars: one per month

o   Journal clubs: one per month

o   Case presentations: two per month and moderate retina case presentations by ophthalmology postgraduates

o   Group discussion: Interesting and challenging Retina and Uvea cases every day.

  • Research activities: The trainee will work on a prospective and retrospective project within the department or in collaboration with other departments.
  • Outreach services: Diabetic retinopathy screening camps
  • Formative assessment of clinical and surgical skills monthly
