The department of Community Health Nursing and IV year BSc Nursing students observed International day of older persons in association with Friends Club, Gundupade on 5th October 2019 at Gundupade friend’s club hall from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Mr Sadananda Prabhu, Member of Panchayat, Pernankila, Mr. Ashok, President of friend’s club, Mr. Ramanna, Member of friend’s club, Dr. Shashidhara YN and Dr. Malathi G Nayak from Manipal College of Nursing inaugurated the programme.
Mr. Sadananda Prabhu and Mr. Ashok addressed the gathering on health problems among elderly and also the psychological stress faced by elderly.
The significance of International day of older persons, global burden, aging process, common health concerns and aging friendly environment was narrated by Dr. Shashidhara Y N, HOD, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal.
The 4th year BSc nursing students enacted a role play on management of elderly problems and awareness was given on diabetes mellitus and hypertension management by Ms. Pavana, IV year BSc Nursing student.
The programme also included games for participants to motivate the older adults. All participants health assessment (height, weight, BMI, GRBS) was done. A total of 16 participants enjoyed these event with complete involvement.
Dr Malathi G. Nayak demonstrated pranayama techniques for the participants and explained its benefits. The overall programme was coordinated by Dr. Malathi G. Nayak, Associate Professor, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal.
