Students also conducted a panel discussion on the topic ‘Advanced Roles of Teachers in the 21st Century: Student’s Perspective’. Five students from fourth year BSc Nursing participated in the Panel discussion. Ms. Ashley Sajan Valleena moderated the panel discussion. Mr. Bharat P Doddamani spoke on the ‘role of a teacher as a mentor. He shared his opinion on teachers taking roles of mentors, their actions and elements of mentorship. He also made a special note that mentors always listen, always intervene and that great mentors connect. Ms. Neha Noronha gave her views on ‘Teachers as planners for 21st century career”. Here she spoke about the 4 C’s of 21st-century education, which are ‘Critical thinking, Communication, Creativity and Collaboration. She also mentioned that teachers should be digital teachers who can play the role of moderators and allow students to learn themselves and guide them when necessary.
Following this, Mr. Praveen Lancy Serrao talked about ‘Teacher as a digital instructor for different ways of learning”. He explained the importance of educational technologies and the different types of educational technologies. He also spoke about the roles of teachers as digital instructors. Finally, Ms. Maitrayee Sen spoke about the topic ‘Teachers as learning facilitators ’. She described how teachers can facilitate self-learning among students and how they can encourage and help students grow both in the classrooms and clinical settings.
All faculty members and 360 students of Manipal College of Nursing participated in the teachers’ day celebration and the panel discussion.
