Report on Onam Celebration 2023

On the occasion of the Onam Celebration, the Student Nurses Association of Manipal College of Nursing celebrated Onam on 4th September 2023, In the morning at 10 am, the inauguration was done by lighting the lamp by Dr. Judith A Noronha, Dean MCON, Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean MCON, SNA Advisor and HODs in the ground floor of MCON Manipal, followed by the Onam Sadhya organized by the SNA Club for the students and faculty of MCON, Manipal. There were 15 varieties of food items including rice, sambar, aviyal, cabbage thoran, inji curry, erisheri, buttermilk, and payasam served on a Banana leaf. The nursing students of BSc., PBBSc, MSc. & NPCC batch has participated in the Onam Sadhya celebration. The faculty of MCON, PhD Scholars, and Research Assistants also joined to have delicious Sadhya. A total of 320 members participated in the Sadhya.
Followed by Sadhya, the afternoon celebration was from 3.00 to 5.00 pm at I floor Dr TMA Pai Hall, KMC, Manipal. All the students & faculty were given a warm welcome and the program started with a prayer song by Ms. Kezia & group. The message of Onam was given to the gathering by Mr. Srivishnu from first Year BSc Nursing, who was dressed up as a Mahabali. The celebration continued with an Onam song sung by Angel & Group, a ’Thiruvadhira' dance by Hanna & Group, which is the traditional dance of Onam, followed by dance performances by Manal & Group and Emilyn & Group. Competition on MCON Vanitha and MCON Sreeman was conducted and won by Ms. Angeline and Mr. Mathew Shijo from I Year. BSc nursing. Dr. Tessy Treesa Jose, Associate Dean, delivered an Onam Day Message on the real meaning of the Onam celebration and how it should be performed. Games were conducted for the students. Dr. Judith A. Noronha, Dean MCON Manipal did the release of the Magazine - Dhwani. A tug of war was conducted batch-wise, and the first year won the prize. Mr. Nickhil Castelino, the President of the Student Nurses Association, delivered the vote of thanks. All the students participated with great enthusiasm and enjoyed the Onam Celebration. The master of ceremony was Ms. Jeeva & Ms. Nandhana from the second year. BSc Nursing. The program ended at 5:30 p.m.
