International Day of the Midwives - 2022
Department of Obstetric and Gynaecological Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal celebrated the ‘International Day of the Midwives 2022’ on 5th May 2022. The theme for this year provided by the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) was “100 years of Progress.” As part of this day, various activities and programs were scheduled for three days from 4 to 6 May 2022, which included Reflective writing competition, Collage competition and a Webinar.
Reflective writing competition on ‘Midwifery experience’ was conducted for the staff nurses of OBG unit of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal on 4th may 2022 with 11 entries. The participants had to express their experience related to Midwifery and provide anecdotes. Mrs. Roshni Martis, staff nurse from WH3 ward secured the first place and Mrs. Latha Kumari staff nurse Women & Child OT secured second place.
A collage competition on ‘Midwives are women’s rights advocates’ was held on 5th May with 24 participants (12 Teams). Ms. Lavita Reshma D’Souza and Ms. Venessa Sanchia Rodrigues secured the first place. Ms. Prathiksha N Kunder and Ms. Swathi secured the second place.
A webinar on "Role of Midwives in Postnatal Care" was organized on 6th May 2022 between 09.00 am to 10.00 am on Microsoft Teams Platform. Ms. Smitha Priya Rodrigues, Registered Nurse, BUPA Care services, Christchurch,New Zealand, focused on role of midwives in postnatal care that included postnatal assessment, newborn assessment, postnatal care, newborn care and breast feeding. Mrs. MST Mousomy Perveen, II MSc nursing student, Dept. of OBG (N) MCON, MAHE Manipal, gave welcome address and moderated the webinar. Mrs. Ranjani P, Assistant Professor Senior Scale, Dept. of OBG (N) MCON, MAHE Manipal, introduced the speaker. Ms. Dafinia Lamare, II MSc nursing student, Dept. of OBG (N) MCON, MAHE Manipal, rendered the vote of thanks. Around 70 participants, including students benefited through this program.
