Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal and Dr.T.M.A.Pai Endowment chair on Systematic review and Evidence Based Public Health, Manipal Academy of Higher Education organized a one-day sensitization workshop on Systematic Review on March 12 and 20, 2014 respectively. Faculty from Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, Manipal School of Nursing and Manipal College of Nursing Mangalore attended the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to create awareness about systematic review. The workshop was attended by 76 participants in 2 batches.
On March 12, the workshop was formally inaugurated by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Pro Vice Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education Manipal. In his address he emphasized the importance of systematic reviews in patient care. Dr. Sreekumaran Nair, Director, Public Health Evidence South Asia( public Health Evidence for South Asia) presented overview on PHESA activity. The workshop was opened by a thought provoking session on Overview of Systematic Review by Dr. Judith Noronha, Associate Dean, MCON, Manipal.
The workshop continued with a presentation by Dr.Baby S. Nayak, Professor and Head, Child Health Nursing, MCON, Manipal on Development of Systematic Review Protocol. Dr.Prasanna Mithra, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, KMC, Mangalore briefed about data extraction. Participants had hands-on experience on Advanced Search Strategy for systematic review by Mrs. Preethy Dsouza, Research Scholar, MCON, Manipal .In the afternoon Dr. Sreekumaran Nair, Director, Public Health Evidence South Asia presented an interesting session on Meta Analysis. Mr.Ravishankar, PhD Scholar, Dept. Of Biostatistics, MU, Manipal explained how to use Rev Man software. Participants had a chance to clarify the doubts during the open session held by panel of experts at the end of the day.
Workshop came to an end at the valedictory function held on March 20, 2014. Dr. K. Ramnarayan, Vice Chancellor, MU, Manipal was chief guest for the programme. He expressed that the educational experience should focus on evidence based practice and outcome based learning. The whole programme was co-ordinated by faculty of Child Health Nursing Department, MCON , MU, Manipal.
