Safe Motherhood 2022 - Poster competiton & Guest Lecture
Department of Obstetrics & Gynecological Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, Manipal Academy of Higher Education organized one-day guest lecture series conducted virtually as a part of the Safe Motherhood 2022 celebration through the Microsoft teams platform. The session began at 2 pm, and around 160 participants attended the session. The moderator welcomed the participants and introduced Dr Shashikala Bhat, the speaker for the first session.
Dr Shashikala Bhat deliberated on the theme of the Safe Motherhood 2022. She explained the impact of the Covid pandemic on women's health and how women faced challenges to seek healthcare. She elaborated on evidence of mental health issues caused by the pandemic and talked about the policies undertaken by the government for achieving safe motherhood. She stressed women's empowerment, minimizing gender bias, and keeping the focus on care for pregnant women.
Dr Savita Pramilda D’Souza took the second session. She talked about the incidence of maternal mortality in India and briefed on directive care undertaken by the National Health Mission. She explained the maternal care bundles and possible steps of expanding practical midwifery standards in the context of National and International perspectives. Further, she explained the National Maternity strategies, the role of midwifery, and perinatal care by midwives in Ireland. She emphasized improving quality care by enhancing the knowledge and skill of midwives as well as supporting midwifery-led care.
The sessions were concluded after discussing the doubts raised by the participants. On 11th April 2022 Poster competition was Inaguarated by Dr Judith A Noronha, Dean, Manipal College of Nursing Manipal, and the posters were evaluated by Dr Binil V, Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatric (Mental Health) Nursing and Dr Soumya Christabel, Assistant Professor Senior scale, department of Medical-surgical Nursing MCON Manipal. The moderator announced the prize winners for the poster competition conducted as part of the Safe motherhood day. Ms Seelia Peeter, PhD scholar, MCON Manipal bagged the best poster award and Mrs Bharathi Nayak, Asst professor Senior Scale, School of Nursing Manipal, bagged the second best poster. There was a total of 17 posters and the participation was by undergraduates, Postgraduates, PhD scholars and faculties of MCON Manipal. Mrs Sweety Fernandes, Assistant Professor, Department of OBG Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal (Convenor) gave the vote of thanks and closing remarks for the program.
