Summer School Programme 2022 - ‘Medical Emergency and First Aid’
Manipal College of Nursing conducted Summer School Programme 2022 on “Medical Emergency and First Aid” organized by MAHE Student Research Forum under the aegis of Directorate of Research, MAHE, Manipal from July 19 to 21, 2022, from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
The “Medical Emergency and First Aid” course was a 6-hour course that spanned across three days and was taken up by Dr. Melita Sheilini, Assistant Professor-Selection Grade, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing, the course co-ordinator and was supported by Mr. Vinish V, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing and Mrs. Shalini G Nayak, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing.
This course was designed to enable the participants to develop an understanding and acquire knowledge about common medical ailments and provide first aid for the victims in any emergency situation. Furthermore, this course was conducted to enable the participants to develop skills and a ready attitude to provide first aid competently.
Mr. Vinish explained about first aid and demonstrated the first aid given during dislocation and fracture. Mrs. Shalini expounded on the first aid for choking and cardiac arrest and demonstrated the procedure for performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Adults, Children, and Infants. Dr. Melita Sheilini explained about First aid for selected injuries/ conditions and demonstrated different bandaging techniques for injuries.
The sessions were very informative and provided a well-appreciated guide for first aid in different conditions. A total of 69 participants, including undergraduate & postgraduate students, Ph.D. scholars, and project staff of different institutions of Manipal Academy of Higher Education attended the sessions. E-certificates were given to the participants.
