International Observership Programme – University of Northern Denmark

Twelve students along with Professor Tanja Chræmmer and Professor Rikke Brændgaard Sørensen faculty from the University of Northern Denmark visited the Manipal College of Nursing for International Observership program from 19th February to 1st March 2024.
During their observership program, they interacted with Dr Karunakar, the Director of office of international, Dr. Judith A Noronha, the Dean, and the HODs of various departments of Manipal College of Nursing. They have experienced various facilities at Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Kasturba Hospital. They have visited various medical-surgical, pediatric, and OBG wards, and labour rooms. Students also visited Dr. TMA Pai Rotary Hospital, Karkala, to get experience of various hospitals in Karnataka. The students and faculty of Denmark have conducted health education on hand hygiene at various schools and in Anganwadi. They have demonstrated germs on the hands using technology and highlighted the importance of hand washing to the schools and Anganwadi children. They have also experienced the culture of Udupi district, which was shared by Dr Prashant Shetty, Department of Humanity and Philosophy. The Department of Yoga and Ayurveda shared other healthcare practices in India.
The faculty Rikke and Tanja along with their two students conducted a guest lecture on Fundamentals of Nursing Care -A Model of Care at UND was shared with all the faculty at MCON on 22nd February 2024 about 40 members attended the program.
The students were fortunate to experience the Taste of Indian foods at the Welecomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration. The entire program was coordinated under the guidance of Dr. Judith A Noronha the Dean MCON, by Dr Shashidhara YN, International students’ coordinator, with the support of Dr Elsa Sana, Professor Internationalization Pillar Head and the entire team of Internationalization of Manipal College of Nursing and the Office of International, Manipal Academy of Higher Education. This visit by the students will help in the promotion of sustainable development goals 3, 5, and 17.
