Eyes are most valuable part of every individual. Hence, it should not be wasted by burying or burning it after death. In India 4.6 million people are estimated to have corneal blindness, which can be treated with corneal implantation and it is possible through eye donation.
In this regard, Eye Donation Fortnight was observed by the department of Ophthalmology, Kasturba Hospital in association with District Health Society-Blindness Control Division, Sight Life International and Student Nurses Association of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON), MAHE, Manipal.
The students from MCON conducted an eye donation awareness street play in front of Government PU College, Udupi on 28th August 2019. The street play was on the theme ‘Vision- God’s Most Precious Gift to Mankind’
The nursing students perfectly narrated and depicted the play through songs, dance and narrations with placards emphasizing various aspects of eye donation such as who can donate the eyes, importance and need for eye donation, whom to contact and how it can change the life of an individual. Team also has the agenda of performing the same event at different places of Manipal and Udupi to create awareness on eye donation among general public.
