Health and social welfare committee of Student Nurses’ Association 2016-2017 organized a slum visit on 15th August, 2016 at Baliga slum, Udupi.
Health and social welfare committee of Student Nurses’ Association 2016-2017 organized a slum visit on 15th August, 2016 at Baliga slum, Udupi.
Thirty four students of Manipal College of Nursing under the guidance of four faculty Mrs. Savitha, Assistant Professor, Mrs. Shalini G Nayak, Lecturer (Health and social welfare committee advisors), Mrs. Anusuya V Prabhu, Assistant Professor, Mrs. Charlet Vaz, Lecturer (Health education committee advisors) visited the area between 11.00 am to 01.30 pm and spent some time with under privileged people who live there.
Activities started with health education on “personal and environmental hygiene” and “mosquito borne disease prevention” to all the residents which included 25 families. Followed by this, each family was visited and provided with the raw food items and clothes for all the family members. Also some recreational activities were conducted for the children. The residents co-operated with health education and all the activities and were glad with our visit. They expressed their gratitude towards Manipal College of Nursing and wished to have further visits for their welfare.
