World Patient Safety Day - 2022

World Patient Safety Day is one of WHO’s global public health days. It was established in 2019 by the Seventy-second World Health Assembly through the adoption of resolution WHA72.6 – “Global action on patient safety”. Its objectives are to increase public awareness and engagement, enhance global understanding, and work toward global solidarity and action by the Member States to enhance patient safety and reduce patient harm.

World Patient Safety Day was observed by the faculty of the department of community health nursing and students of final year BSc Nursing, Manipal College of Nursing, MAHE, Manipal on September 16, 2022, from 10 am to 11.30 am at Morarji Desai Residential School, Patla, Udupi.

The programme began with Ms Lyiana and team invocation, followed by a welcome address by Ms Gloria, the final year BSc Nursing student. Mr Praveen Lancy, the final year BSc Nursing student gave a brief talk on the importance of observing World Patient Safety Day and unveiled the theme of the day. Mrs Sandhya, School Health Nurse, Morarji Desai Residential School, Patla, addressed on the importance of health. Mrs Poornima, Principal, Morarji Desai Residential School, Patla stressed the importance of consulting the doctors when we feel sick.

Ms Jeni and the team performed a role play on the Rights of patients. Ms Arpita delt the session on the correct actions of medication safety.

There were 200 school children, eight teachers and five non-teaching staff who attended the programme. Ms Arpita, the final year BSc Nursing student, proposed the vote of thanks and the programme was compered by Ms Gloria. Sweets were distributed to all children at the end of the program. The overall programme was guided and supported by Mr Vinish V, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Health Nursing, MCON, MAHE, Manipal.
