‘Empowering Communication: Intervention Strategies for ASD’-World Autism Awareness Day

The Department of Speech & Hearing at MCHP, MAHE, organized a one-day workshop titled 'Empowering Communication: Intervention Strategies for ASD' on April 2nd, 2024, commemorating World Autism Awareness Day. Dr. Usha Devdas, Head of the Department of Speech and Hearing, MCHP, initiated the event, stressing its importance. Sessions led by Ms. Reshmi. M., Ms. Aminath Samahath, Ms. Calida Pinto, and Ms. Ashitha Sreelakshmi covered diverse intervention strategies such as PECS, Social Stories, improving joint attention, and managing echolalia. A special online session by Ms. Padma Sheshadri offered insights from a parent's perspective. Attendees actively participated in the interactive demonstrations and enjoyed performances by Master Yuvaan and Miss Athmiya, children attending speech therapy at the Department of Speech and Hearing, Manipal. The workshop concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks from Dr. Veena K. D, Associate Professor from the Department of Speech and Hearing, MCHP. The event left attendees inspired and determined to apply their newfound knowledge in ASD intervention, promising a brighter future for individuals with ASD and their families.
