March 03, 2024
The Department of Speech & Hearing at MCHP, MAHE recently celebrated World Hearing Day during the first week of March 2024. In line with the World Health Organization's theme of "Changing mindsets: Let's make ear and hearing care a reality for all," the department took an important step by organizing a hearing screening for students from Manipal College of Communication. Around 75 students participated in the screening, and out of those, 13 were referred for further evaluation. The students were also given an informative talk on ear and hearing care, including the impact of regular gadget usage and maintaining safe hearing practices to prevent noise-induced hearing loss. Dr. Archand. G. provided a live TV talk on a local channel, staying true to the theme of World Hearing Day. Ms. Bhargavi P.G gave a radio talk, and Ms. Swati wrote an article in the newspaper highlighting the importance of changing mindsets regarding hearing loss. Added to this our post-graduate audiology student actively participated in a discussion forum moderated by Dr. Mridula Sharma in association with IALP. The primary goal of the discussion was to understand the challenges that upcoming audiologists face in the field of audiology and how the lack of awareness about hearing loss and intervention approaches affects their practice.
