MCODS faculty invited to the WHO, SEARO consultative committee meeting in New Delhi.

Dr. Shashidhar Acharya, Professor and Head of Public Health Dentistry, MCODS, Manipal was invited to the WHO, SEARO consultative committee meeting on 27th – 28th October, 2014, held in New Delhi. The meeting was conducted under the auspices of Centre for Dental Education and Research (CDER) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences which has recently been designated as WHO Collaborating Centre for Oral Health Promotion.   The aim of the meeting was to formulate a strategic action plan for oral health promotion in South-east Asian region, to discuss a framework and methodologies for oral disease surveillance adapting the WHO STEP wise approach and to identify priority actions to implement the regional priorities for promoting oral health. During this meeting, Dr. Acharya gave a detailed presentation on, “Addressing oral cancer and tobacco cessation in dental practice in the South East Asian Region” and also was involved in revising  and upgrading  the WHO oral health survey protocols as a part of the expert group. The meeting was chaired by Professor, Naseem Shah, Director, Centre for Dental Education & Research, and WHO-CC on Oral Health Promotion and National Centre of Excellence for Implementation of National Oral Health Programme and the Director of the WHO SEARO Office in New Delhi.
