Orofacial pain and obstructive sleep apnea-Basics Revisited

In the pursuit of achieving academic excellence, Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, MCODS, Manipal organized a full day continuing professional development program titled “Orofacial pain and obstructive sleep apnea-Basics Revisited” on August 31st,2017. Organizing chairperson Dr. Vineetha, R, Professor and  head of department of Oral Medicine and Radiology welcomed the dignitaries, invitees, participants and gave an overview of the program.

Dr. Pragna Rao, Dean of Kasturba Medical College, Manipal was the chief guest of the program. Dr. Keerthilatha M Pai, Dean of MCODS, Manipal also addressed the gathering.

Dr. Davis C Thomas from Rutgers University, USA was the resource person for the event. He is an alumnus of MCODS, Manipal and is now an expert in the field of Orofacial pain and obstructive sleep apnea. He is currently the Faculty In-charge of developing the Orofacial pain and Dental SleepMedicine program at Rutgers University, USA. The speaker highlighted the scope of orofacial pain as an emerging field of the dental specialty and discussed the role of dentist in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea which is one of the most serious sleep disorders. This was followed  by an  interactive session with the students aspiring to pursue various dental programs in the United States discussed its scope, hurdles and the importance of meticulous preparation before appearing for board examination.  

More than 170 delegates including faculty and students from Manipal College of Dental sciences Manipal as well as Mangalore dental colleges and dental practitioners from Udupi district actively participated in the program.
