A collaborative academic session was conducted in observance of the International Day of Radiology on 10 November 2025. The program brought together the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and the Centre for Forensic Odontology (MCODS Mangalore) with the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (KMC Mangalore). The session carried the theme “Unlock Forensic Secrets: From Skull to OPG – Master Age, Sex & Identity”, highlighting the role of radiology in forensic identification.

The program aimed

  • To introduce participants to radiographic and anatomical methods used in forensic identification.
  • To strengthen interdisciplinary understanding between dental radiology and forensic medicine.
  • To provide hands-on insight into age, sex, and identity estimation techniques using cranial, mandibular, and radiographic features.

A total of 23 participants attended the program, including students, interns, and postgraduate trainees from the collaborating departments. The session covered key forensic and radiological topics, including:

·       OPG and CBCT Landmarks

·       Sex Estimation Using OPG and CBCT

·       Age Determination – Demirjian’s Method

·       Rugoscopy

·       Age and Sex Assessment from Skull and Mandible

 

The session enhanced the participants’ understanding of how radiographic and anatomical data contribute to forensic identification. The interdisciplinary format encouraged collaborative learning and highlighted the complementary roles of dental radiology and forensic medicine. The program successfully marked the International Day of Radiology with a focused, engaging, and academically rich forensic-radiology session. The collaboration between MCODS Mangalore and KMC Mangalore strengthened academic ties and offered participants valuable exposure to applied forensic techniques.
